König Eumenes entbietet dem Rat und dem Volkder Koer Grüße. Wir ehren die Atheneam meisten von allen Göttern wegen der zahlreichen undgroßen Erfolge, die sie uns verliehen hat beiden verschiedensten Gelegenheiten, und wir haben ihrNikephoros als Beinamen gegeben in der Meinung,dass dieses Epitheton das schönste und ihr am meistenzukommende sei, so wie wir es auch früher schon geschrieben haben;zweimal nämlich schon habt ihr, von uns eingeladen,die Prozession, die wir damals verkündet hatten, wohlwollendanerkannt und Festgesandte geschickt, um in frommer undehrwürdiger Weise an den Opfern teilzunehmen. Und jetzt,da wir ihre Ehren zu vermehren die Absicht habenund noch größeren Dank für unsere siegreichen Kämpfe im Kriegabzustatten, haben wir beschlossen, ihr eine Prozessionzu veranstalten jedes vierte Jahr sowie musischeund gymnische und hippische Kranz-Agone,und haben zugleich auch ihr Heiligtum in Pergamon für unverletzlicherklärt, für das wir selbst die Granzsteine setzen werden; und wir hieltenes für gut, wenn dies durch Festgesandte verkündet würde,so dass diese Spiele veranstaltet werden zusammen mitallen engagierten Griechen als ein Dankan Athena für die großen Erfolge.Wir haben zu Euch als Gesandte geschickt - - -aus - - -, der bei uns den ersten Rand und Ehrenplatzhatte aufgrund seiner Vortrefflichkeit; und - - -aus Myrina und Megon aus Ephesos, aus den Reihender “ersten Freunde” bei uns, und - - - und Kalas aus Pergamon,auch von uns für würdig befunden, die alsBürger das erreicht haben, was ihnen ihrem Alter entsprechendzusteht, und die von der Stadt besonders ausgewählt wurden,weil sie mit uns die Nikephoria verkünden sollen. Ihrtut nun gut daran, zunächst wegen der Göttin, dann aberauch unseretwegen, diese Männer wohlwollend anzuhörenund die Nikephoria sowie die Unverletzlichkeit anzuerkennen,wie es euch passend erscheint. Wenn ihr dies tut, werdet ihr für alle sichtbardie Ehren jener Göttin ebenfalls vermehren; uns aber werdet ihr gemäßdem bei uns vorhandenen Wohlwollen für euer Volkin Zukunft zu jeder Zeit als so eifrig wie möglichum euren Nutzen bemüht finden. Wwe honor Athenamost of all the gods because she has bestowed on usand and great favors onthe most diverse sorts of occasions, and we have given herthe epithet Nikephoros, reckoning this title to bethe most beautiful and appropriate one for her,as we earlier wrote;for twice already when you were invited by us to thefestivals that we then announced, you acceptedgraciously and sending theoroi shared inthe rites solemnly and piously. and now,wishing to increase the honors of the goddessand render greater thanksgivings for our struggles in war,deciding to celebrate for her aa quadrennial festival and musicaland athletic and equestrian crowned-contests,and also declaring her temple outside Pergamum,whose boundaries we ourselves will define, and judging it goodthat these things be proclaimed by theoroi,so that these contests may be celebrated together withall the most serious of the Greeksas thank-offerings to Athena for great successes,we have sent theoroi to you - - -- - -an, who has obtained from us foremost honor andposition because of his excellence, and - - -,Myrinan, and Megon, Ephesian, friends of firsthonor with us, and - - - and Kalas, Pergamene,all judge my us worthy and ascitizens possessed of what is appropriate to their stature,and also chosen by the cityfor proclaiming the Nikephoria with us.
